Contemplative Spirituality

My journey with God has led me to explore ordination to the priesthood. As part of a new discernment process the diocese has asked me to spend six months in another parish. This new obligation has kept me away on Sundays but I have continued to offer the programs at COS below.

Silent Saturdays

Spending time in silence and contemplative prayer is how we learn to let go and simply rest in God. We gather every month on a Saturday morning and spend three hours praying in silence. Practices such as centering prayer, meditative walks, and Lectio Divina are woven into the morning retreats. A growing number of men and women find these Saturdays an important part of their spiritual life. Everyone is welcome and no prior experience is necessary.

Centering Prayer

This group has outgrown St Luke’s Chapel and so we have moved to the Community of Divine Love Monastery library. Sharon Crandall has been practicing Centering Prayer for many years and she facilitates this group and brings her love and dedication to this way of prayer. We meet every Tuesday at 6:15pm.

Gentle Yoga

Yoga has gifts for every stage of life. Most studios don’t offer gentle yoga that is appropriate for the less active and for seniors. In this class we emphasize breathing practices, relaxation techniques, balance, and strengthening. We meet every Wednesday at 10:00am in Cleavor North. This has become a popular gathering and many COS parishioners attend. Occasionally, Candlelight Yoga is held on a Sunday evening. This is a more active style of yoga done on mats.

Seasonal Quiet Days

During Advent and Lent the monastery hosts Quiet Days. These are promoted through the church and our email lists. These popular days of reflection are from 9:00am – 2:00pm. The Community of Divine Love Monastery library can hold up to 20 guests.

Meals with Monks

This is an opportunity for vestry members, parishioners and neighbors to spend time praying and breaking bread with the community. We gather for Vespers at 5:30 and then share a simple meal together at the monastery.

Praying the Divine Hours

The Community of Divine Love Monastery prays every day in our chapel at set times – this is called praying the Divine Hours. The greater community is welcome to join the monastic rhythm of prayer with us. The prayer times are posted on the COS website as well as at We welcome you to join us!

On the Community of Divine Love grounds is a lovely stone labyrinth. You are invited to enjoy walking in quiet contemplation in this lovely shady spot. It is open to the public from 9:00am – 7:00pm everyday except Mondays.
