FESTIVAL CHOIR begins this fall

I have thought about this for several years, and I want to see if there is interest in this idea. A Festival Choir is a group of singers that come together for a specific choral work to be performed at a specific time. My idea is to invite singers to participate in several rehearsals and then join the parish choir in a service of music. There are several opportunities this year for such collaboration. I will offer three times during this coming season for opportunities to join in the offering of music. I will require 3 or 4 rehearsals/plus a dress rehearsal for each “performance”. Each rehearsal will be in the Choir Room, Atwill building, on Thursday evenings, 7:30-8:20 pm.

November 6: All Saints' Sunday (10:00 am The Holy Eucharist)

We will sing the 10 am service and the principal work will be the “Requiem” of John Rutter. You may get a score and begin to work before the rehearsals. Four rehearsals: October 13, 20, 27, November 3 and the dress rehearsal, Saturday, November 5, 10:30-12:30.

January 29: Hymn Sing at 4:00 pm The Music of the Church: Hymns and their History

Join the choir in singing hymns of the church, from the very beginning to right now, from chant to new hymns being written in our own lifetime. Three rehearsals: January 12, 19 and 26, dress, Saturday, January 28, 10:30 am-12:30 pm.

April 14: Good Friday evening, “Crucifixion: A Meditation on the Sacred Passion of the Holy Redeemer” by Sir John Stainer, 7:30 pm. Join the choir for this sacred work, with four rehearsals, March 16, 23, 30, April 6 and a dress, Monday evening, April 10, 7:30-9:30 pm

I ask you to think about this opportunity to sing and to share your music abilities and your love of singing with others. You may wish to sing one or all, which is your decision; I welcome your conversation and thoughts.
