Heartfelt gratitude from Sr. MJ, CDL
Dear COS Community,
I am back from Haiti and I want to thank you for your financial support of Heartline Ministries and for your prayers. The Haitian people were so welcoming and hospitable and it was such an honor to experience the various ministries of Heartline first-hand. The picture above (left to right) includes the group of women I went with to the women’s prison, the bread that we gave out in both prisons, and the young men in prison praying.
While in Haiti, I learned quite a bit about Heartline and they are doing some amazing work. In addition to leading worship and giving out bread in the prisons, they lead worship and bring food to the orphanage for kids with disabilities, run a women’s maternity center, run a women’s education center, and support a school for Haitian children who would not otherwise be able to afford an education (there is no free public education in Haiti). All of these ministries provide jobs for Haitian men and women and they help them learn English. Recently, one of the Heartline staff members, Vanessa, started a Kid’s Club on her day off. Each week, about 200 children from materially poor families attend Kid's Club to worship, learn, play, and receive a meal. I had the opportunity to get to know Vanessa while I was there and I can tell you that she has such a beautiful spirit and love for the work she does.
Before leaving for Haiti, based on the cash donations I received and the pledges people said they would make, I was able to make a donation in the amount of $1,000 on behalf of COS parishioners. If you gave cash or made a check out to CDL, I am happy to send you a receipt for tax purposes; just send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) with you name and address. And, if you gave cash, the dollar amount as well.
Heartline asked me to send along their thanks, “Thank you, and please express our gratitude to the parishioners of The Church of Our Savior for their generous donation. Our heartfelt desire is to be the hands of Jesus to those in prison, and we are thankful to the church which has reached across thousands of miles to be the hands of Jesus with us to the prisoners here in Haiti.” (Read the Thank You Letter Here)
Again, thank you, thank you, thank you for your generosity. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about all the beautiful people I met and how much COS was able to support them. You are truly God at work in the world!
