Stewardship: (Re)New

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

(re)new 2020.png

I write you this day to ask for your financial commitment to Church of Our Saviour’s 2020 Annual Giving Campaign.  This year’s stewardship team chose the theme “Renew” for 2020 because together we are renewing our commitment to God’s dream for Church of Our Saviour as we join in discerning how that dream might manifest.

Each year there are important details to remind ourselves of during the Annual Giving Campaign. Church of Our Saviour’s operating budget is entirely self-sustaining.  Your giving helps pay for the cost of our music program, our multicultural Christian witness, and Christian education for all ages.  Faithful givers like you help pay for the utilities, administration, and maintenance of our beautiful and historic campus.  Pledges enable Church of Our Savior to support the Our Saviour Center, Transitional Housing, Laundry Love, as well as sustaining our relationship with the Community of Divine Love and A Child’s Garden Preschool.

Moreover, your vestry and your rector have committed to more transparent and sensible financial decisions, relying less on endowments in order to invest in our future together.  Your annual giving will be vital to our effort to better live within our means as together we follow God’s dream for us.

Nevertheless, it is more important to write about why I believe it is vital to my relationship with God to give based on my gratitude for who God is in Jesus Christ and what that means for me and my family.  Annie and I give to Church of Our Saviour because we are grateful for a loving God who created us, a Savior who redeemed us, and a Holy Spirit who sustains us in this magnificent community.  We also strongly believe that the physical act of giving transforms our relationships to God and to the resources of time, talent and treasure.  It reorients our values, and in it doing so, we are blessed.

Lastly, I challenge all of us to find the courage to dream.  In a polarized world filled with innumerable reasons not to believe that God’s love can make a difference, may we at Church of Our Saviour be a people who joyfully choose to dream about the bright future God knows we can realize.

If you currently give financially to Church of Our Saviour, I thank you and ask you to renew and even increase this commitment as you are able.  If you do not currently give to Church of Our Saviour, I thank you for being a part of this great church and ask you to pledge in the 2020 Annual Giving Campaign as together we renew our commitment to God’s dream for us.

Faithfully,

The Rev. Jeffrey D. S. Thornberg, Rector
