From the Rector's Desk

Dear Members of the COS Community,

As the process toward the selection of our next Rector unfolds, it is now time for me, as the Interim Rector, to determine my own timeline toward the conclusion of my tenure here at the Church of Our Saviour.  In consultation with the Senior and Junior Wardens, I have determined that my final Sunday with you will be on July 14, 2019. This will allow for approximately six weeks between my departure and the hoped-for arrival of your next rector in late August or early September.

At my recommendation, the wardens and I have determined that I will go off the payroll as of July 1, 2019, which will most assuredly allow for the six week time period we have built into our 2019 budget for not paying a rector between the time of my departure and the arrival of the new rector.

The wardens are recommending that I technically retain the office of Interim Rector for some time after my departure, and before the arrival of the new rector so that any legal issues which might arise over the summer (such as the sale of the Cleaver Family Wellness Clinic) can be addressed with both the authority of the rector and the vestry in place. This is why I will go onto “unpaid leave” as of July 1, but not resign as Interim Rector as of that date.

By the end of June I will have accrued one week of unused vacation, which I intend to use from June 24-30, 2019. This means that my last non-Sunday day in the office will be June 22. I will not be here on Sunday, June 30 (while I am still on the payroll) or Sunday, July 7 (after I begin my period of unpaid leave). However, I will return on Sunday, July 14, both for my final Sunday as well as to celebrate the baptism of Juli Kennedy’s grandson!

My remaining Sunday schedule will be as follows:

June 2, 9, 16, and 23

July 14

It has been an honor and a privilege for me to walk alongside you since February of last year. In many ways it is hard to believe that over 17 months will have passed since my arrival and my final Sunday on July 14. God has truly been present and active in our midst during that time, and I am excited about all that God has in store for you during the upcoming chapter of your story with a new rector.

Thank you for this opportunity to serve as your Interim Rector here at the Church of Our Saviour.

Faithfully,

Bob Honeychurch
