Music Ministry Notes
Where do I begin? I have been BLESSED these years here at The Church of Our Saviour. Sometimes it feels like I’ve been here since 1989, when I first became Organist, with James Person, Director of Music. Those were wonderful years here with The Rev. Canon Nicholas Kouletsis, as Interim Rector and then the calling of The Rev. Canon Denis O’Pray. The choir went on two tours, and I was privileged to be organist for these trips abroad. In the intervening years, I was invited back to be guest organist for various music activities with then Director of Music, Linda Duffendack Mays.
My return was on January 6, 2008, the Feast of the Epiphany. These have been years of growth, enjoyment, and I am grateful to ALL who have shaped me, loved me, cared for me, these 11 + years.
Now that the Our Saviour Choir has sung their last service of the season, and we are now into the long season of the Sundays after Pentecost, my playing for the 7:45 a.m. liturgy with come to a close, except on my last Sunday with you on August 4, 2019. The choir will return with guest singers for this last celebration of music and ministry.
Music for a Season, our 11th Season, has also come to a close. Many friends, members and lovers of music have held this series up with your financial and physical presence these eleven years. THANK YOU for your support of this music ministry, and of your choir, Our Saviour Choir. I would like to list those who have contributed this year and there are also many who have been anonymous in their gifts of time and financial support. You may see the list on the Music page.
Music has been a VITAL part of this historic parish. There are records of the very beginning of this parish, with an organ, organist and choir director, who taught the choir the proper singing of Anglican chant and hymns! WOW! There have been organists and choir directors throughout our history. And, as I mentioned this past Sunday, there are four members of the present choir who have been singing in this place, starting young, for over 50 years! What a testament to the gift of music! Thank you to Michele Baker, Juli Kennedy, Phyllis Scorcia and Cheryl Townsend. Many other members have been here 15-35 years. THANK YOU to the choir members, both volunteer and staff, who have been FULLY committed to this ministry in this SACRED PLACE.
Blessings to all as we welcome our new Rector and pray that music continues to be a VITAL part of this GREAT CONGREGATION!

Minister of Music and Organist
