Dear siblings in Christ,
I write to you with continued updates regarding Church of Our Saviour’s methodical and prayerful discernment toward its future. For more than a decade, Church of Our Saviour’s leadership has identified Children’s Ministry as an area in need of additional support, direction, and even resurrection. While A Child’s Garden School (ACGS) continues to provide exceptional support for its children and families, it has been some time since COS has been able to build many bridges between the preschool community and church community at large.
To that end, your vestry and I have called the Rev. Anne C. S. Thornberg as COS’s new Associate for Children’s Ministry and Chaplain to the Preschool. This half-time position, beginning in July, will be partly funded by ACGS and partly funded by COS. In addition to leading chapel for the preschool, this position will offer support to preschool families midweek, lead Godly Play on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m., coordinate Children’s Chapel in Grace Chapel during the 10 a.m. service, and serve as the clergy point person to an 11 a.m. Children’s worship service in Grace Chapel. Last, this position will serve as the staff liaison to the Sacred Garden and preach and celebrate at all COS worship services, as Annie’s schedule allows.
In order to be fully transparent, both the bishop’s office and your vestry have signed off on the position description, as well as my selection of Annie to fill the position. Similar accommodations have been made to ensure that oversight of this position is shared between the vestry and bishop’s office.
As always, if you have any questions whatsoever, please do not hesitate to contact me. I do ask that if you have ever had an interest in supporting Children’s ministry, you reach out to Annie or me. We would love help in rebuilding Children’s Ministry at Church of Our Saviour.
Faithfully,
Jeff+
