OUR SAVIOUR CENTER SPOTLIGHT: Meet OSC's New California College Corps Fellow, Charleton Le

Our Saviour Center

Since 2022, Our Saviour Center and Dorris Dann Kids Campus have partnered with the Cal Poly Pomona College Corps program, providing their student Fellows with a place to earn job experience and support the local community.

California College Corps is a program that gives college students opportunities to give back to their community and address specific priority areas including K-12 Education, Climate Action, and Food Insecurity.

One of these Fellows is Charlton Le (pictured above; Charleton is in the navy blue shirt). Charlton was born and raised in El Monte and graduated in 2021 from El Monte High School. Although he did not attend Dorris Dann Kids Campus, he participated in OSC’s Soccer for Success program as a youth. From Pasadena City College, he transferred to Cal Poly Pomona, where he is currently studying computer science.

Charlton grew up with a passion for computers, but as a young person he did not have many opportunities to explore computer science. Fast-forward to October 2024, when he started the PC Club after realizing the extent of our youths’ interest (and hearing them complain about how slow the ones at DDKC were). Seeing himself in these DDKC students, Charlton wanted to teach them about computer science, computer engineering, and software engineering — as they built their own PCs!

GPUs, CPUs, motherboards, and other parts are expensive to come by, and funding is a challenge. However, Charlton remains positive in outlook. Excitingly, since the club members built their first complete computer, more students have shown interest in the club and computer science.

While Charlton is at Dorris Dann Kids Campus as a College Corps Fellow, his commitment to enriching our youths’ lives reflects his passion for computer science, education, and his community. Charlton said, “I want the kids to value commitment, discipline, and respect. Working on computers, they need to think outside the box and be creative with their solutions. I’m proud of how far they’ve come, and how they continue to improve their communication with me.”
