This weekend we commemorate the Feast of All Saints. On this occasion each year, we remember the established saints of the church, that great cloud of witnesses that have gone before us. But what about sinners? I know of plenty of churches named “All Saints.” Why don’t we have churches named “All Sinners Church?”
Are you a saint……or a sinner? Are you a good person….or a bad person?
The answer for all of us, of course, is both. We are all saints and sinners, broken and redeemed. In Denver, there is a Lutheran Church called the “House for all Saints and Sinners.”
What would it look like for us all to acknowledge that we are all at once saint and sinner? What would it mean to acknowledge the duality of both roles at Church of Our Saviour?
