“Purify our conscience, Almighty God, by your daily visitation, that your Son Jesus Christ, at his coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself...”
These words are the opening collect or prayer we will hear this Sunday as we gather to worship. They really say it all: we ask God to come to us every day to purify our hearts and minds, and to prepare us to be a suitable dwelling place for the coming Christ.
Furthermore, may this inner hospitality be grand, not just in any dwelling, but a in mansion.
As we look forward to the annual celebration of the birth of Christ, may we feel the tenderness of suffering around us. Let us not ignore the loss so many of our brothers and sisters are grieving. Let us instead let it break our hearts open and be an invitation to the healing presence of Christ.
